after touching down in cairns, immediately u could feel your clothes soaking up sweat from your limbs and back... its weather up in far north queensland is similar to singapore! it was my second day back in australia, so i was kinda used to the hot and humid weather and adapted quickly.. we made our way to cairns girls hostel on lake st.. the hostel was fairly decent.. it was clean and neat however there wasnt an air conditioner installed; our poor ching had a hard time sleeping because she was getting a little too warm and sticky
xing ku ni le! i guess its the price to pay for staying at a cheap backpackers.. anyway we endured 6 nights of it! i am so proud of myself.. =)
on the 2nd day, we went on to visiting a small town up in the hills (Kuranda) we opted for a scenic train ride up the hills...during our journey, we came across the stoney creek falls, glacier rock and red bluff as well as barron falls =) at kuranda village we explored the mini souvenir stalls, viewed exhibits at a photographic gallery and had pasta for lunch
there was some time left before the mini bus headed for cairns city, so we went on a short rainforest walk =p

we signed on for a day tour the next day.. we covered mossman gorge, port douglas, cape tribulation, an animal santuary, daintree in all..
hanged out in cairns on day 4 of our trip =) we went to the botanical gardens for brunch, there were a couple of interesting plants and ferns around.. besides that there isnt anything spectacular.. about 300m across the botanical gardens, it's the entrance for mt whitfield red and blue arrow walks.. we headed back to the city in the blue sunbus after which we went for a cuppa at coffee club and dinner at the night market. we had a glimpse of the esplanade and hurried back to the hostel to watch house LOL
caution!! this is the highlight of the trip!!! hehe it was the start of our diving class.. day 1 and 2 of our 4day ow course was basically filled with DVD videos and going thru the basic skills and procedures in the pool. we had our swim test and medical check up on the first day... and had a theory test on the 2nd day.. i am so proud of myself!! i scored full marks!!!!!!! lol ![]()
we went out to sea on sunkist, it was a 2 hour boat ride out to sea.. you could baically see the gradual change of colour of the water as i was chilling on the top deck of the boat =) sun baking time! lol anyway we were then transferred to the liveaboard boat called the kangaroo explorer. the boat master briefed us on the standard procedures and schedule.. we moved to the saloon and ethan informed us abt our allocate rooms... me and ching had a room down at the bottom deck
we had lunch and OFF we go into the water!! woohoo!! the current was light, i was panting by the time we swam to the anchorline.. i nearly DIED.. haha i am so unfit =S then it was time for our first descent in the waters of australia.. hehe the water was a little choppy and i drank a few gulps of water b4 getting totally submerged in the water -.-''' anyway after we passed that stage.. it was EASY haha we saw some cousins of nemo during our first dive ^^ i floated all the way up to the surface when our instructor was showing us nemo -.-!!! anyway i calmed myself down and did a free decent down again.. phew.. i was lucky
we played with 2 sea cucumbers (one of which is a leopard sea cucumber)when we were down at the sandy patches =) the underwater world is spectacular.. there are just massive amounts of life forms down there! so much to see and explore! its just amazing..
after a 2.25hr rest we were all excited and went for our 2nd dive.. this time round we saw bat fish circling round our whole group when we were practising our underwater skills
i saw schools of blue damselfish , butterfly fishes and angel fishes.. there were also colourful christmas tree worms on various lunar corals as well! heez... it was then time for the night dive!! it started raining when we had our briefing for the night dive =p i was kinda taken back, since the night dive was optional.. however, the gals in our group were all very adventurous so i didnt wanna lose out too!! haha ching and me had the adventure of our lifetimes that night! the weather was bad, it was pouring heavily and the sea was choppy.. the boat was rocking like a huge rocking chair and everyone onboard tried their very best to keep their balance~ as soon as we descent into the water, it was all calm and serene.. it was nothing like the conditions above the surface
we could hear the raindrops hitting the surface of the water... it was kinda cool ^~^ with the torch in hand.. i was trying very hard to look at my surroundings, hoping to not crash into any coral.. we saw a huge school of about 30 to 40 bumphead parrotfish and a few dumb red sea bass.. hehe and a little sea star =) i fall off the ladder while i was trying to get out of the water..YES IT WAS that BAD! i got giddy (sea sickness) as soon as i got onto the boat.. and tried hard to shower as fast as i could, after tat i lay dead on the bed ![]()
we woke up at 5.30 in the morning and went for our first dive.. how heavenly!! dive for a whole day -> sleep -> as soon as u wake up u are ready for your dives again
LOL at millin reef we did out first dive for the day.. we, descent 17.8m, saw a few bluestreak cleaner wrasse and a TURTLE!! AWWWWW.... it was so cute... we managed to scratch its back too!! kawaii then it was time for our certification dive =) a videographer followed us down too and we had our dive filmed
there were parrotfishes swimming around our group when we took our mask off and placed on some sunnies ^^ we got our SSI cards underwater and had a little message written on a board with us! it was a whole load of fun... YESH!! I AM A CERTIFIED DIVER now.. diving anyone???????? hehe we went for our first dive as a certified diver after lunch.. we went through the caves like the way they do it on discovery! we swam through confined space and emerged into schools of fishes and lots of soft coral =) i spotted a school of humbugdamsel fish in some staghorn corals.. it was then time to say gooodbye to the GBR
The TRIP was awesome!
we ditched the girls hostel and moved into the northern greenhouse..
back on land, i could feel the land swaying as i stood still on the road.. lol ching said i had 'motionless sickness' lets forgive her.. she is trying very hard to improve her jokes... LOL joking
we had our mini celebration at a japanese restaurant which i ordered kaarage chicken don and sprite =) the northern greenhouse was wonderful, thanks ethan for the recommendation!
the next day was boring.. we didnt have any planned itinerary in mind so we made our second trip to the mt whitfield red arrow walk, world heritage forest, fresh and salt water lakes..
there was a pizza party at the woolshed organised by the dive centre.. so we had our night out in woolshed, i drank a cup of beer on a empty stomach and i was already feeling a little tipsy.. i tried apple cider too.. there was this racing goldfishes section and ethan participated but he lost to canada.. haha then we said our goodbyes to our newly found friends in cairns!
thank you ching, ethan, CDC and my friends from norway, denmark, the states, canada and the uk for making my trip to cairns memorable !
it was 39 degrees celcius today in brissy.. the heat was excruciating
b4 lunch i felt my head spinning, i thought i was hungry.. but the pain didnt stop after i had mee goreng and curry for lunch.. so i questioned lisa n joerg.. it's the weather he replied.. lisa said she was feeling uncomfortable as well... hmmm it felt like i had motion sickness! stepping out of the unit, i could practically smell the heat absorbed by the cement. it felt as if we were astronaunts in a spaceshuttle SO SO close to the sun.. hmmm, it's totally comparable to standing right in front of the oven (set to 220 degrees) when someone's opening its door... for the 10 seconds that we were fully exposed to the sun, i felt like i was melting.. it was scorchingly HOT! u dont have to be in the desert to experience that.. just come over to brisbane.. lol now i can totally understand why winnie said she could have had a heatstroke last summer in Oz; u just feel like taking off all your clothes.. the hotter it gets, the more i feel like jumping into the water.. i miss diving boohoo! and ethan too =( as we were walking across toowong village's carpark, we could just feel the HEATED breeze gushing onto our faces.. oh boy, the hot air was sucking all the moisture i had in my lungs.. (~.~) terrible terrible! anyway we did some marketing and we headed back home, after an hour or so in the mall, the temperature was back to normal.. thank god! and so.. i have been facebooking, chatting and playing online games to kill time
ystd night we made a trip to alvin's office.. joerg wanted to grind some merlo coffee beans so that we could test out his new toy (rancillo HIGH CLASS coffee machine) hehe the 3 of us took a stroll and walked to milton.. after being lost several times, we finally found our way to alvin's office. the next challenge was to contact alvin, we didnt have any $ with us, lisa and i didnt bring along our phones and joerg's phone was low on credit.. so we sat along the road and waited........... we were expecting alvin's call.. but there was none.. haha so joerg started throwing stones onto the windows...while lisa and i were frantically waving our hands, jumping and screaming in effort to attract attention.. i reckon we hit the windows for around 20 times b4 someone saw us.. lolx anyway it was well worth the effort, we had 300g of coffee beans grinded and i had 2 cups of espresso so far! wahaha i can hav as many cups of coffee as i want during winter.. not to forget ALL TIME FAVOURITE frothy hot chocolate.. thanks
i'll be doing an entry on my cairns hoilday in a few days time.. i'm still waiting for ching to pass me the pics.. till then! enjoy =)
this is so cool!!! i had a song dedicated to me! a ZILLION thanks to fir
check that out!
Pictures of You by the last goodnight
This is the war that's never won
This is the soldier and his gun
This is the mother waiting by the phone praying for her son
(chorus)
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Hung up on your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Remind us all of what we used to be
Woooah
There is a drug that cures it all
Blocked by the governmental wall
We are the scientists inside the lab just waiting for the call
This earthquake weather has got me shaking
Inside i'm high up and dry
(chorus)
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Hung up on your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Remind us all of what we used to be
[ Pictures Of You lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
Confess to me
Every secret moment
Every stolen promise you've believed
Confess to me
All that lies between us
All that lies between you and me
We are the boxers in the ring
We are the bells that never sing
There is a title we cant win no matter how hard we must swing
(chorus)
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Hung up on your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Remind us all of what we could have been
(chorus)
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Hung up on your wall for the world to see
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Remind us all of what we could have been
What could have been
We could have been
Pictures of you
Pictures of me
Remind us all of what we could have been
What could have been
thank you! =)
The person with self-respect simply likes her- or himself. This self-respect is not contingent on success because there are always failures to contend with. Neither is it a result of comparing ourselves with others because there is always someone better. These are tactics usually employed to increase self-esteem. Self-respect, however, is a given. We simply like ourselves or we don't. With self-respect, we like ourselves because of who we are and not because of what we can or cannot do.
quoted from the article 'Self-esteem vs. Self-respect' written by Ellen J. Langer
Developing the capacity for respect is a lifelong challenge. Our sense of self tends to be fragile. It rises and falls as we face life's challenges with varying degrees of success. The development of self-respect, or, in essence, self-esteem, is guided by how we see ourselves. The people in our lives act as a mirror in this process. When people who are important to us give us attention and encouragement, we see positive images of ourselves. At other times, our interactions with others may make us feel unattractive, incompetent, or even invisible. As with adults, young children build their sense of self-respect from their interactions with others. When they are made to feel special and valued, children grow to respect themselves. A positive sense of one's self allows the maturing child to respect others.
Self-respect is at the heart of respecting others. When you can identify and appreciate your strengths and accept your vulnerabilities, it's easier to truly respect the value in others.
quoted from ''Respect: The Sixth Core Strength' By Bruce Duncan Perry, M.D., Ph.D.
They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.
i have completed my short stint in cooper crouse hinds and currently i have returned to being a full time slacker... i am enjoying the time i have in singapore.. i still cant decide if i should continue on with my studies, with my courses of interest clashing with each other and some problems i have with my diving trip... i am feeling so vexed, i am so indecisive. after meeting up with wb ystd, i really feel guility for not doing my best in my studies.. my engine has stalled for a VERY VERY long time.. and i cant seem to find anyting to keep it running
wb, u have been a positive influence =p i'll keep u in mind and will continue to try very hard to motivate myself! thanks
i have always wanted a chance to visit the local university in singapore. i wanted to experience life as a uni student in singapore
yes, we may have friends who may be able to describe their life in there, but nthing beats a real life experience =) thanks to stickwoman! i got a chance to visit ntu, for 2 days i accompanied her from home to school for lectures... it was really an eye opener. The campus was mammoth lol as compared to UQ! The way in which lectures were conducted were similar to the polytechnics. i guess i am too used to the australian way of lecturing, it could be due to their difference in language abilities, concepts conveyed by the local lecturer seemed to be broken into tiny pieces.. being a true blue singaporean, i could figure out what they were trying to teach, but it was kind of tedious to piece everything up when the pace of lecturing was relatively fast. one of the lecturers actually said something that discourages students to raise qns -.-||| there were hardly any thought provoking statements or qns raised during the lecture too..(hmmm..probably the lectures are just to build on their foundations, they may have it in year 3 lectures? i'm not sure..) students in the local uniS are just overwhelmed by their HEAVY academic load. they must be exhausted both mentally and physically.. with the highly competitive environment, packed timetables and the excruciating travelling time of 3 hours to and fro pulau nanyang. **salute** the warriors! hee u are really great my friends
jia you^^
i went back to SP on thurs with gc.. thanks =) hope u enjoyed the tom yum soup. annie thanks for your encouragement and advise, it was a pleasure catching up with u.

on tuesday?? i made 7 tiramisu pots, yummy!

love it so much hehex oh yah and did i mention in my previous entrieS? i made an oreo white chocolate cheesecake last week, SUGOI (the only thing that went wrong was that i added too much white chocolate causing it to be too sweet) oh i read a book that jone recommended (arigatou~) and i suddenly came to realise that i have totally violated lots of martian laws... LOL i am trying to change, hope it helps
(let's see if it works hehe)
i think i am coming down with a flu..(my hands and feet are icy cold) on this lonely friday night, facebook seems to be a perfect hideout =S
i came across this text (quoted below) while surfing facebook, at least it gives me some reassurance that i am not only one going thru all this.. thanks ![]()
'Heart this u are one of the below:
Scared about being in a relationship again
Ever thought u were Ugly
Ever wanted to run away
Heart broken
Confused
Been mad becasue u cant trust anyone
Been disappointed in your self or in other people
Heart this if u care.' (it has got a total of 48 hearts)

SUGOI nehx
